Photos of an Iron Monger

Jeff Bridges has quite a lovely set of photographs from his time on the set of Iron Man, over on his personal website. Man's got quite a nice eye for framing and light.

And I just had to post this gem I found on Teh Interwebs -

(Yes, I know the man's a talented actor with several roles under his belt but damn if I don't love that weird little film. Just be glad I didn't post this deeply irritating yet mildly amusing video instead.)

More Drinking Well With Excalibur

When last we left off discussing Excalibur, I was coming up with notions about how best to relate a noble team of superheroes to the process of getting hella crunk (as opposed to getting Hela Crunk, which is a horrible idea). Now, I was happy to let the matter lie but The Red Monk had the unmitigated gall to slap me across the face with a metaphorical glove by decrying my Geek Cred for not including Meggan, Captain Britain and Rachel Summers . . . so now it is ON. It is on like Donkey Kong.

The Burning Phoenix

So, as it turns out, there is already a drink named Phoenix Paradise but given that A) it is a cold ice cream drink and B) Phoenix is such a goddawfully emo character half the time, it just didn't sit right with me. Poor thing. Seriously, even her cheery Go-Go Girl costume that Deadpool had to try on for fun doesn't take away from her unhappiness. I don't think I've ever seen the girl happy unless she's making out with shirtless space men or clothes-shopping with Kitty. Yes, I know she has issues (thank you, Claremont for giving her a thinly veiled Electra Complex* on top of the Survivor's Guilt), but if I were finally living in a past devoid of genocide with free food and rent, I might enjoy it a tad more.

Anyways, here's a shot for Rachel Summers, because she could probably use three or four of them. I proudly present The Burning Phoenix (a slightly modified Flaming Jesus) - dangerous, briefly on fire and consistently bittersweet.

1 1/2 oz flavored Vodka (preferably raspberry, in keeping with all the red)
1 splash Lime juice
1 splash Grenadine
Float 1/2 oz Bacardi 151 proof rum

Mixing instructions:

Pour Vodka, lime juice, and grenadine into shot glass. Then layer 151 on top from the back of a spoon. Light the 151 and shoot it while lit if you dare. If you are worried about shooting a lit drink, just blow out the flame and then shoot the drink.**

*The "hating every woman who her father dates that isn't her Mother - the mother who Claremont constantly has to creepily mention she resembles" Complex, not the "ninjas bring you back to life, you get a bad movie with Jennifer Garner and then Skrulls kidnap you for a stupid crossover" Complex.

**Do not use if housing a cosmic avatar.

Meggan's Kiss

Now, while there is a drink called Sex With The Captain, even I'm not tacky enough to use that drink for the purely adorable and much-missed character that is Meggan. That said, she is still deceased (for now), so a variation on a Blonde On Ice is my regretfully appropriate choice.
(Fingers crossed for Meggan's resurrection coming sooner rather than later. Hey, when Gail Simone brought back Ice, she also renewed my hope that there's still a place for happy, upbeat women in comics)

1/2 oz Creme de Banane (Yellow to match the hair)
1/2 Vanilla Schnapps (Sweet to match the attitude)
1/2 oz Peppermint schnapps (Minty to match the . . . mintiness? I don't know)
1/2 oz Vodka (So, it's either give up now or make a tasteless joke about her poorly-written crush on Colossus. I vote give up now)
Fill Cream (Aren't you glad I voted to give up now?)
Ice cubes (Because Britain is cold)

Mixing instructions:

Fill highball glass with ice. Add creme de banane, followed by peppermint schnapps, vanilla schnapps and vodka. Fill with cream. Short shake.

Alternately, you could get a blender, scoops of vanilla ice cream, increase the proportions and make yourself a summer treat. Unlike Rachel, I could totally see Meggan being a sweet ice cream drink.

Captain Britain

. . . is an alcoholic, you sick, sick little monkeys. What is the matter with you? Maybe I should just come up with a Tony Stark's Iron Bender drink to entertain you ghouls while I'm at it. God.

You people disgust me. Alcoholism is a disease, you jackals.

. . . Tony Stark's Iron Bender is actually a drinking game, which consists of the following - take a six-pack of the cheapest beer you can find in cans, drink each can as quickly as possible, crushing each of the cans against your forehead after you finish and throw them against the wall, screaming "REPULSOR BLAST!" at the top of your lungs each time you throw. The first person to finish drinking, crushing and shouting each beer in order, without mixing up the steps, wins!

. . . And Captain Britain drinks English Highballs when nobody's looking.

And because I'm getting all the classic roster done, here's a drink in honor of the most delightful character on the roster . . .

Fuzzy Elf

A variation on the Fuzzy Navel, naturally, but far more charming, dangerous and German.
(and him quitting the X-Men is totally idiotic, btw)

1 oz Peach schnapps
1/2 oz Vodka
1 1/2 oz Orange juice
1 shot Jagermeister

Drop the Jager quite suddenly into your Fuzzy Navel for a Bamf effect. Admire the swirls, then drink. Much like Nightcrawler himself, this will guarantee a kick you won't see coming.

And you didn't even MENTION Nightcrawler, Red Monk. So there. Shame, shame and dishonor on you for forgetting your favorite character, you punk, you.

Remember, please drink responsibly and, failing that, enjoy yourself immensely while drinking irresponsibly. Cheers and good health to you all!

Oooooh! Aaaaah!

KEVIN CONROY IS BATMAN AGAIN!
*ahem*
Sorry, had to get that out of the way first. What I meant to say is, please enjoy this expanded trailer for Batman: Gotham Knight in HD -

And in other comic book to film news, here's a whopping TWO minute preview of Robert Downey, Jr. being damned amusing as Iron Man -

. . . and in other geeky news, I just realized that I'm so much of a nerd, I can't even type the phrase/word "Aaaah!" anymore without thinking of Adam Hughes.

*shakes head ruefully*

Hughes often gets a bad rap - most notably for that infamously godawful Mary Jane statuette - but I have to say that I generally like his covers and I thought his Gen 13: Ordinary Heroes was beautiful and even a little bit poignant. It's a read worth tracking down, IMHO.

Ooh! Apparently the TP also has the great little "WHAM!" story in it, wherein Roxy actually rants at length about the body issues being Caitlin Freakin' Fairchild's sister creates. I did not know that! I might have to hunt it down now.

Avengers Babies! And more Iron Man!

The good folks at Blog@Newsarama have revealed something very cute. It would seem that one of the next Marvel animated films is a sequel to their Ultimate Avengers flicks . . . a very, very distant sequel.

I have to say - the little kid 'Vengers? Freakin' adorable.

And in keeping in my promise to keep the readers of this blog updated on all things "Matt Fraction's Invincible Iron Man", here's an interview with the man himself about the upcoming title.

And speaking of Iron Man - can May 2nd come any faster? I know it's less than two months away but I'm seriously stoked about this. Enjoy the brief brand-new TV trailer!

For Those Who Search

Lately, I've noticed three distinct groups of people who scour Teh Interweb popping up here at The LookOut. And, since I'm a kind, helpful soul, here's a little something to help out you wayward strangers.

1. Folks who want to know about "Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog"

Yeah, I'm excited as you are. You might want to go here, which is the official fansite with a link to the possibly official site and everything. Failing that, check Whedonesque regularly. They're awesome and the only linkblog where Joss Whedon posts regularly.

And hey, do you not want to click a link at all to hear NPH sing? Here you go.

You're welcome, my fellow Whedon nerds and NPH fans.

2. People excited about "Matt Fraction's Invincible Iron Man"

Matt Fraction totally has a blog. I'm pretty sure he might update more regularly about Iron Man over there than I do here, but hey, you never know. I'll make sure to keep fresh Invincible Iron Man news coming, just in case Mr. Fraction might be incredibly shy and self-effacing.

3. . . . "Emma Frost Naked"? Really?

. . . I have no idea WHY this keeps coming up. Seriously! I've never blogged about Emma in any way other than adoration and/or respect for her character.

Still, since a frankly disturbing number of you want to see a fictional character naked, here she is . . .

Whoops. My bad. So terribly sorry. Guess you'll just have to figure out how to use Google Freaking Image Search. Or possibly go outdoors and *GASP* talk to real girls!

Honestly. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Emma's almost always half-naked anyways, for crissakes. But hey, thank you each and every one of you for encouraging me to get onto writing the Emma half of my Emma/Scott post. You know, about why she's awesome and such a fully-realized character and NOT JUST WANK MATERIAL FOR FANBOYS. *eye twitch*

. . .

Just to be clear - Emma Frost will not be naked in that post either.

Look Out! He's slowly coming back!

Still hammering out some personal problems but I hope to get this party re-started again soon and, as Mo'Nique might say, leave the drama for yo' Mama. This is a Comics Blog after all, not a "Emo K. D. Whines About His Life Blog" (there's way fewer YouTube links on that blog).

In that can-do spirit, please enjoy the following delightful comic links I've found and my general ramblings:

Enjoy the entire 1st issue of the slightly Buffy-esque Suburban Glamour, which appears to be a trade I'll have to buy at some point. The art alone is gorgeous enough in it's own right to make this a must-look and the story certainly intrigues as well.

There's a new, expanded Iron Man trailer up that shows how the villain of the piece comes into being. I'm not sure if I prefer this trailer or the first one that had the "Merchant of Death" line and the Black Sabbath theme going on. In any case, we get more sassy, drunk Tony Stark, which is delightful. I usually hate the character but you know, I think I already love this movie more than a little bit:

Now if only people would give Adam Warren a decidedly more extended crack at the character. *sigh* If you haven't read his mini Iron Man: Hypervelocity yet, I'd suggest enjoying it post haste for all the delicious science crack it contains. Case in point:

At least Fraction's getting to put out his take on Iron Man, which promises to be delightful.

Speaking of Adam Warren, Empowered Vol. 3 is coming out soon, so that should certainly cheer me up. I might proceed to concoct a whole post about why I love this OEL Superhero Manga so dang much - despite it's rather squicky origins - in order to celebrate it's glorious return.

. . . you know - once I finally find my damned copy of Astonishing X-Men #14 and proceed to write the insanely delayed Scott & Emma Post I've been promising all of you for half a month now. Sorry again, all.

Anyways, the guy screaming "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" outside my apartment complex has finally stopped/died/fell down drunk, so I think I'll try to get back to sleep.

And in seriousness, thanks again to you all for your patience during this difficult time.

On Necessity, Iron Man and Matt Fraction

Me: "Oh, God, they're doing another Iron Man title? Is that even necessary?"

Kay: "I thought that was out already and called Mighty Avengers-"

Me: "Wait, hold on - it's being written by Matt Fraction."

Kay: "Oh! Okay."

Me: "Yes. So, yeah - it is necessary. My bad. All things Matt Fraction related are necessary."

Seriously, folks, this is the the third best Iron Man news I could have ever imagined reading!
(The second best being that this title would be "Iron Man and The Order" by Matt Fraction and the hypothetical best thing being that Iron Man's new ongoing writer was going to be Adam "Hypervelocity" Warren. With art by Adi Granov.)
