This excellent part of a series about characters nobody likes coincidentally numbers a goodly number of Chris Claremont's kinky fetishes. All of which are troubling, of course, but none as bad as a certain reoccurring theme of Mr. John Byrne (yes, he's done that more than once). It kinda blew my mind that Magma was your entry character in that first Ultimate Alliance-y X-Men video game instead of Jubilee or Kitty Pryde.

Also, they're making a documentary about Grant Morrison's life. Hell, I'd watch it.

And in the spirit of the Season, Chris Sims has collected his 12 favorite DC Comics' Christmas Stories. Man, that Impulse story was delightful. I miss wacky Impulse.

A moment in which we discuss Final Crisis

So, I'm tradewaiting Final Crisis and hoping it reads better as a whole story, but coming across huge spoilers is kind of inevitable on Teh Interwebs. I haven't even been to the comic shop today but I still heard a little something about Final Crisis #6 that made my eyebrow quirk.

And That's What Everyone's Talking 'Bout!

Lately, there seems to be an odd trend of Comics Bloggers demonstrating their love/awareness of pop hits.

Beaucoup Kevin has posted the new anime-style Britney Spears video.

Over at the Invincible Super-Blog, Chris Sims incites debate about exactly how much better the William Shatner cover of "Common People" is than the original, via the use of Archie Photoshop Excellence. Bonus points - I finally got to hear the original version of the song thanks to his linkage. Gotta say, I think I finally found something to put me to sleep in the wee hours. Thanks, Sims!

And not to be left out, Blog@Newsarama has revealed that the awesome and talented Gail Simone has created a 92-page, $12.99 comic that is entirely about . . . THIS:



What Blog@Newsarama fails to report is that other famous comics creators applied for the job and were turned down.

I hear Alan Moore was devastated that his take on the story was considered "too adult" by Miss Lavigne.

Raina Telgemeier - who found out about the whole thing after Simone got the job - was quoted as saying the following:
"I'll [expletive deleted] gut you like a [expletive deleted] fish on Good Friday, Simone! Nobody works adorable pre-teens and teen American digest formats but ME, bitch! Stay off my [expletive deleted] turf or I'll [expletive deleted] you with a [expletive deleted] [expletive deleted] until you bleed [expletive deleted]! [expletive deleted]!!!"

(I hear she's killed at least 20 men in cold blood. True story.)

Oh, and Grant Morrison's plot twist that Avril was both the Girlfriend who she stole from and the new Girlfriend herself was rejected as "too meta". Pity.

(They also hated the whole "The Boyfriend is Evil" twist. Philistines.)

ETA: If you dig around this carnival of fanpeople boggling and posting "WTF?!?", you can actually find Gail Simone's quotes on the "why" of this project. To sum up - "Outreach, outreach, outreach." Which is something I can totally get behind, 'natch.

Oh, to have been at this party

Sure, I'd already known that the wrap party for Y: The Last Man had such luminaries as Joss Whedon, BKV and Pia Guerra in attendance. What I didn't know was that there was also an OPEN BAR, Grant Morrison and a MONKEY you could TAKE PICTURES WITH. Take notes, people - that is a party.

K. D. Loves Grant Morrison

So maybe I've gone a little overboard with the photoshopping here, but in a one-two punch of awesome news, it has been pointed out to me that Grant Morrison has ACTUALLY LISTENED TO TEH INTERWEB!!! OMFG!!1!

He has presented a brief glimpse of a Batcave containing a memorial for Stephanie "Spoiler" Brown in a recent issue of Batman (even if it is a sort of dream sequence)! I tip my hat to the wonderful ladies over at Girl-Wonder and When Fangirls Attack for keeping the faith.

And after eating my serving of humble pie for thinking DC was going to shaft us on a Girl Robin Case forever, I also found out today that he ended up using Emma Frost in his New X-Men run as a result of a fan's suggestion on his message board. I mean, wow. That's damned cool.

Morrison? I know you're listening right now - what with the 'actually caring about what us Internet types have to say' and/or the drug-induced Shamanistic connection to the collective unconscious - so I just wanted to say thank you.

Thanks for revitalizing Emma Frost and putting her together with Scott Summers, thus creating the most interesting relationship I've read in a Marvel comic for a very long time (and making Cyclops more interesting to me as a character by proxy). Thanks for New X-Men because, among many other reasons for loving it, it resulted in the creation of Astonishing X-Men which I absolutely adore.

Thanks for Animal Man, both post-modern and non, and his loving suburban family.

Thanks for Evil Skeets because that phrase is just flat-out hilarious to say out loud. "EVIL SKEETS!"

Thank you also for the awesomely trippy series called The Invisibles and the characters within, even though I haven't managed to find the fourth volume at the library yet.

Thanks for giving us fans an image of hope, however fleeting.

. . . Aaaaand I think I just used up my yearly quota of politeness, hope about the Internet to make real change and sycophancy. Back to my cynical hatred of all things before I run out of this emotion humans call "love" before Valentine's Day.
