So, ladies and gentlemen, it is officially April - which means my month of March Limerick Reviews is over.
. . . Or is it?
Which form of Reviews do you, my kind and discriminating readers, prefer? Haikus? Limericks? Sestinas? Some other form of poem? Or long, rambling discourses ala traditional reviews? I really could go either way. (Okay, maybe not so much with the sestinas. Those are total brain-melters to write.)
I hereby open up The LookOut for requests!* Even if one of those requests is "Finish that damn Emma Frost/Scott Summers Post you said you'd finish back in FEBRUARY, you filthy slacker!" (P.S. I'm still working on it, I swear.)
*Requests must be comic book, comic book review or humor related. We here at The LookOut will not post naked pictures of ourselves, no matter how much money you throw at us. Nor will we ever stop speaking in "The Royal We" when there is ever only the one of us. So there.
Lately, I've noticed three distinct groups of people who scour Teh Interweb popping up here at The LookOut. And, since I'm a kind, helpful soul, here's a little something to help out you wayward strangers.
Yeah, I'm excited as you are. You might want to go here, which is the official fansite with a link to the possibly official site and everything. Failing that, check Whedonesque regularly. They're awesome and the only linkblog where Joss Whedon posts regularly.
And hey, do you not want to click a link at all to hear NPH sing? Here you go.
You're welcome, my fellow Whedon nerds and NPH fans.
Matt Fraction totally has a blog. I'm pretty sure he might update more regularly about Iron Man over there than I do here, but hey, you never know. I'll make sure to keep fresh Invincible Iron Man news coming, just in case Mr. Fraction might be incredibly shy and self-effacing.
3. . . . "Emma Frost Naked"? Really?
. . . I have no idea WHY this keeps coming up. Seriously! I've never blogged about Emma in any way other than adoration and/or respect for her character.
Still, since a frankly disturbing number of you want to see a fictional character naked, here she is . . .
Whoops. My bad. So terribly sorry. Guess you'll just have to figure out how to use Google Freaking Image Search. Or possibly go outdoors and *GASP* talk to real girls!
Honestly. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Emma's almost always half-naked anyways, for crissakes. But hey, thank you each and every one of you for encouraging me to get onto writing the Emma half of my Emma/Scott post. You know, about why she's awesome and such a fully-realized character and NOT JUST WANK MATERIAL FOR FANBOYS. *eye twitch*
. . .
Just to be clear - Emma Frost will not be naked in that post either.
The LookOut will be on a temporary hiatus while dealing with some thorny Real Life Stuff. Hopefully, things will be sorted out by Monday so I can go back to providing you all with the important Haiku Reviews, incessant 'shipping, geekery and smart-assery that you've all come to know and tolerate.
In the meanwhile, please make me smile by answering the following questions:
1. First comic book you ever read?
2. Favorite comic book superhero? Supervillain?
3. Favorite comic book couple?
4. How long have you been collecting comics?
5. Most importantly, who would win in a fight - Squirrel Girl or Batman?
At least I'm not as bad off as Batman. Wayne Industries must have tanked because the poor guy is now dancing for spare change:
Clearly, the man is troubled. I think his long slide into darkness began when he started hitting the OJ. Rest assured, I won't be making the same mistake.
Have a good weekend all and I hope to blog at you again soon.
When I moved into a new apartment recently, my already scattered longboxes got even more scattered. As a result, I haven't been able to find my copy of Astonishing X-Men #14, which I was planning to use as one of my cornerstones for the whole Emma/Scott posts. Rassum-frassum lack of organization!
Luckily, I've found a place to put out feelers - the wonderful world of Scans Daily. Please click the link above to enjoy my limited contributions from Marvel Comics Presents #5, which includes dinosaurs, Black Widow II and a variety of wonderful crack.
Here's hoping I find what I need soon, so y'all can enjoy the stunning insights into Scott and Emma you've no doubt been staying up nights waiting for. *crosses fingers*
*INSET K. D. Bryan in sensible sweater, sitting in a chair by a roaring fire.*
Hi, there. I'm K. D. Bryan.
There's a threat to online comics blogging happening today - a threat a lot of us refuse to admit exists. We don't talk about it because we're in denial about how dangerous it is. A lot of comics bloggers won't even admit that it's a problem, rationalizing it away as being "cool" or "fun". They'll say things like "Everyone does it!" and "We're just rocking out!" and the problem is this - they're right.
As you may have guessed, I'm talking today about GHRBS - Guitar Hero/Rock Band Syndrome.
GHRBS can happen to any Comics Blogger at any time. Some of our best and brightest comics bloggers have been afflicted with this disease. It's only from their brave examples that that I, too, can admit that I suffer from GHRBS.
*moment of silence*
Just last night I was up until 8 in the morning, socializing with people and learning to play the drums. At one point I was so far gone that I convinced myself I could sing, thanks to two lucky Expert scores on Roxanne and My Sharona. I was only able to stop myself after I foolishly tried to defeat stadium level crowds on Hard settings. How badly I failed, whether or not my band got a PR Firm or not (we totally did) - none of the details of how awesome any of this was matter, really, because it is this blog that suffers . . . like so many other Comics Blogs out there.
*shakes head ruefully*
*change setting to black background, zoom in on my talking head*
GHRBS can afflict anyone with a next-gen game console and an awesome taste in games. Even if a "friend" of yours is the only one suffering, you can be drawn in before you even know it, like a fly in a web. Studies show that GHRBS is a disease that afflicts one in 17 Comics Bloggers - resulting in socialization, being awesome, inflated egos and most terribly, an utter lack of comics blogging. If you are suffering from any of these syndromes, it's best to post about how much Joe Quesada or Dan DiDido make you angry immediately, before the urge to have a social life becomes overwhelming. GHRBS can lead to partying in a hardy manner, 4AM meals at Denny's, increased numbers of friendship with symptoms of good times, and - in extremely advanced cases - public karaoke.
Please, if you suffer from GHRBS, just remember the three S's to keep yourself blogging - Stay at Home, Stay Bitter and Stay Blogging. Otherwise, someone might just enjoy Countdown unironically - and nobody wants that. Nobody.
If any of you need more information on Guitar Hero Rock Band Syndrome or just want to share your life experiences with others, please leave a comment below. Remember, being informed is the first step to combating any awesome disease.
Rachelle over at Living Between Wednesdays has thrown down the gauntlet with a "fill in the blank" Batman caption contest! Let it never be said I fail to pick up gauntlets people throw on the floor! I've even made TWO flavors of Bat-Captioning, because I'm just that determined to give extra content to you, The Reader:
Hello, everyone. My name is K. D. and I love comics.
*cue unenthusiastic chorus of "Hi, K. D.!"*
I've been collecting, reading and generally getting crazy about comic books since I was 11 years old. It's a terrible addiction that has led me to make bad decisions . . . like choosing to eat Ramen for five days straight just so I could afford Greg Rucka books. Or stabbing that guy in Reno for his copy of the collected run of Sleepwalker. Or worst of all, choosing to buy Spider-Man titles in the 1990's.
For every title I kick, two more spring up to take it's place, like agents of HYDRA. I keep making allegories and using similes that would only make sense to fanboys or fangirls (see previous sentence). I read Scans Daily, have a thirty dollar a week habit, read multiple comics blogs and it's still not enough.
Now? Now that I've hit rock bottom, I realize I really have a problem.
I'm- I'm a Comic Book Blogger. God help me. God help us all.
