Comic Book Fashion?

This link about comic book nerds being "Brashly confident avatars of cool" has got me curious . . . so indulge me, Dear Reader, by answering the following questions for me - either in my comments section or in your own blog!

1. How many comic book related shirts do you YOU wear/own? What are they?

Batman, Superman (original logo & colors), Superman (on fire logo, black background), Powers (Retro Girl outline on Black), Milk & Cheese Bowling t-shirt, Bone (Phoney Bone's face & logo), Spider-Man (black background)

2. Which of these shirts are your favorites?

The Milk & Cheese one is well-made, extremely comfy and hilarious. Hands-down my favorite. Of course, I wear all of the above regularly, save for the Spider-Man one, due to it having shrunk in the wash.

3. Which of these shirts get the most comments when you're out and about?

Original Logo Superman and Batman always guarantee comments from strangers and occasional wide-eyed stares from kids. The Milk & Cheese is a surprisingly strong third, especially when I wear it out to bars. All three generate a lot of fun and I've even started conversations that way.

My favorite moment with the Superman shirt was when I was in Vegas. My friend Jim and I were strolling down the entranceway into the Excalibur Casino where we were staying, after having a very disappointing day. Being that this is Ye Olde Medieval Times Casino, they have two trumpeteers who blare out a welcome for guests as they arrive. They gave us a perfunctory bugle call and I tried to cheer up Jim by quipping "Hey, at least these guys knew we were coming!", and giving them a thumbs-up.

Not two seconds went by before they began playing the John Williams Superman Theme in tandem. :D I burst out laughing - and then made sure to strut the rest of the way down the entranceway in a "Superman" pose, preening like an idiot.

(On a side note, my friend Kay tends to get tetchy whenever she asks somebody with a Superman t-shirt questions about, say, Action Comics and gets met with a blank stare. Luckily, I'm authentically GEEKCORE - you know, as opposed to all these wanna-be playas co-opting Geek Culture. :P)

4. Feel like posting a pic of yourself in one of your Comic Book T-shirts, looking oh-so-fashionable?

Not right now, but I'll edit this later to add one . . .
Behold! This is from many moons ago but the shirt remains the same. Gotta say, Clark Kent is/was the easiest five-minute Halloween Costume I ever put together.

(Ye Gods, I forgot I even owned that goofy-looking Buffy poster. I'd always wished whomever gave me that B-Day gift went with a more fandom-y black background Buffy/Angel or the Buffy Season 2 Cast poster. Instead, I had to constantly convince people I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer, not SMG inexplicably squatting in poison ivy. *sigh*)

1. Lessee, I've got an Avengers shirt, a Random Assortment of Marvel Heroes shirt, a Booster Gold shirt, a Supernova shirt, an Autobot logo shirt, a Supergirl shirt, a Green Lantern shirt, a Beetle Bailey shirt, and if we really stretch it, I've got a couple of Star Wars-related shirts. So 8-10, it seems. I might've forgotten something, of course.

2. I'm particularly fond of the Booster shirt, mostly because I'm particularly fond of Booster. They're all pretty nice shirts, though the Beetle Baily one has a scratchy neck tag I've been meaning to cut off for, uhhhh, a year or two now.

3. I think the only one that's ever gotten a comment was the Green Lantern shirt, actually, just the once, in the form of a compliment from my cashier at Burger King.

4. I'm basically a huuuuuuuuuuge nerd.

1. Wow, you've impressed/stunned me. I didn't even know they made a Supernova t-shirt. I used to have a great Kyle-type GL logo shirt but I wore it to pieces years ago.

2. My Powers t-shirt has a similar problem and I am similarly lazy about attending to it.

3. BK employs GL fans - yet another reason to prefer Burger King to it's competitors. I'll put that one right after "Delicious Caesar Chicken salads".

4. *APPLAUDS*
Wow! You are truly are a "brashly confident avatar of cool." Kudos, miss!

1. 2 :D One is a Supergirl shirt that has sleeves up to my elbows :D The other is a pink Supergirl camisole :]

2. the first one :) The second one has uncomfortable straps and I find it difficult to sleep in it :(

3. THE SECOND ONE XDDD And yus I've worn it as a regular shirt before XD

4. Here XD I tried to make a "realistic" Supergirl costume for Halloween but couldn't find a red jacket :( Also the shirt has stretched out a lot and I use it as PJs now :D So there is some irony with my two shirts XDDD

I also own Supergirl panties! 2 of them actually, one is a thong with the little S at the back where the strings are. XD I HAVE a picture of me in that actually but you can't see it! :P The other is pink and matches the camisole :)

Basically I own lots of Supergirl stuff! I have a Supergirl mug too XD It's also pink :O

1. Nifty! My friend Kay has at least three Super shirts - Superman (regular colors), Supergirl (light colors) and Superboy (dark blue). She also has disturbingly specific reasons for wearing each one at certain times/places. Don't ask. :P

2. Well, it's certainly perfect weather for elbow-sleeve shirts. :) All long sleeve anything drive me bonkers, tho', so I can't wear 'em (you know, unless it's formal wear or business stuff).

3. THE SECOND ONE XDDD
Ha! I still can't tell which one's your favorite. :P

4. Cool Pic! XD

Hey, it still works. You just give off more of an Animated Series Supergirl vibe. :)

:O . . . Wow. I did not see this thread going to an undies place. :P But you know, I'm glad it's you discussing your superhero undies and not Dave from Dave's Long Box. That guy makes me really uncomfortable when he starts going on and on about his Spider-Man undaroos. :P

Well, the only Super-hero shirt I own, is a lovely Green Lantern shirt, that was a present at Christmas from my kids. It's nicely made, and actually fits. I have gotten some rather odd looks when I've worn it, but a kid at the grocery store DID go bananas over it.

Considering I'm a middle-aged Mother of four, I was QUITE proud of myself. And my shirt.

WELLL

Superhero logos dun ONLY come on tops :D

I think my favourite is... the blue shirt to wear to sleep and the camisole to wear outside :D

I.e. I like them both :D

Very nice! Kudos for your choice and for the acclaim. Everyone knows that a good Green Lantern t-shirt makes you an especially "brashly confident avatar of cool". :D

Is it the original logo with the green background and such? I had a really nice one that was white with the black & green Kyle-style stripe down the front. Sadly, I wore it to pieces some years ago.

Well, DC certainly doesn't. I bought it off of eBay, along with the Booster shirt. The rest of them are store-bought, though.

That's muy impressive, both in terms of dedication on your part and craftsmanship on somebody else's part. Those shirts look great. I don't suppose you'd have a link to their creator?

And this settles it - I must get onto eBay. I was planning on using it to sell of some of my 15 long boxes worth of comics but being able to find awesome custom tees? I fear I might spend all my profits but it'll all be worth it if I can just find a decently made Madrox t-shirt.

I do in fact have a link. They're nice, comfortable, all-cotton shirts, too.

Thank you very much! :D Glad to hear the quality is great - the last time I bought a geeky tee off Teh Interweb (A Serenity one from Cafe Press), it ended up being pretty darn flimsy.

Wow, those are some seriously well-designed shirts. I'm impressed by the Firestorm one and the "Y: The Last Man" one is especially tempting. Shame my budget isn't more open to fashion this week. Grrrr. Stupid lack of riches! /Homer fist shake
